Evolving Spaces is een nieuw hoofdstuk in het overkoepelende BookProject waar Erki De Vries en Pieter Huybrechts sinds 2012 aan werken. In CC Mechelen stellen zij tentoon op een aanzienlijk grotere schaal dan voorheen.
Het project bestaat uit verschillende fasen. Deze resulteren in een reeks van sculpturen verwerkt in de installatie ter plekke, waardoor je als bezoeker met verschillende schalen in aanraking komt, en een tweeledig begrip van de ruimte verkrijgt boven de complexiteit van het werk. Verder volgt er een presentatie van een sculptuur in boekvorm bij de finissage. Installatie en fotografie spelen op elkaar in, in situ ontwikkeld naar de ruimte van CC Mechelen.
De bezoeker kan en mag zich door de installatie bewegen en zo de sterk van elkaar verschillende zijden en zichten op zich in laten werken.

ATLAS combines the works of five artists working with and thinking about photography and visual culture. The underlying framework of their practice is related to the potential of the medium of photography – its experimental character, heterogeneous nature and flexibility.
Using language to analyse images and to even ‘talk’ about them, might feel paradoxical. Is an image not the medium of choice to say something meaningful about images? This is what the artists in this show endeavour. Their experiments within the medium itself could be considered as ‘meta-images’ – images refering to the mechanisms of perception and their didactic influence upon our Western Society. Although taking, sharing, and viewing photographs has become a second nature for most of us, our regular engagement with images does not necessarily make us visually literate. Our ways of seeing and reading things are intrinsically linked to a scope of parameters ranging from physiological, cultural and technical aspects – all decisive players within the act of perception, which we are most of the time not aware of.
The artworks exist independently. Their place in the gallery makes various constellations and relations visible. Together they create an atlas of different perspectives on photography and visual culture, with overlapping thoughts and visions.

In galerie valerie_traan te Antwerpen tonen Pieter Huybrechts en Erki de Vries Framing Spaces. Naast een overzicht van eerdere werken zijn verschillende installaties te zien die zijn geënt op de ruimte waar het werk wordt getoond. De monumentale kwaliteiten van de galerij zorgen voor een ver doorgevoerde vereenvoudiging in het creëren van nieuwe zichten.
